TUNE is an internationalized application and has been built to support any language. By default, the application is set to English. Pro accounts can only use English as the language for their network. Enterprise accounts can take advantage of the suite of pre-translated languages available as well as the option to add their own custom translations to the application.
Change Network Language
Enterprise accounts have the option to select a pre-translated language from the list of languages we support. The network language set for the network will be used as the default language for each new user.
To change the network language, go to Company > Customize Application > Settings > Application. In the Language dropdown, you can select from the following fields:
- Chinese (simplified)
- Czech
- Dutch
- French
- German
- Hebrew
- Italian
- Korean
- Portuguese
- Romanian
- Russian
- Spanish
- Swedish
- Turkish
Multiple Languages
In addition to selecting a language for your network, you can also enable a feature that lets you use multiple languages that can be applied at the user level. This means that your network can be set to English by default, but set an individual partner to Spanish. Then when they log in, their users can view the application translated into Spanish natively.
To use this feature, set Allow Multiple Languages to “Enabled”. This setting is right below the default language field on your Application settings page.
When this is applied, each user account will have an option in the Settings section of their profile where you can set the custom language with the Display Language field. You can apply pre-translated languages, as well as any custom languages that you have uploaded.
To change the language for a partner/advertiser user, you the admin will have to make this change for them if they request. Other employees can change the language for their accounts on their own end.
Custom PO Files
For many networks, the pre-translated languages are sufficient for their needs. However, some networks work in languages that are not yet supported. Enterprise accounts can use the custom PO file tool to add a custom translation file to their network. You can also use PO files to change the wording in the current language (like changing the word “Partner” to “Publisher”).
Follow the steps below to add a custom translation to your network:
Step 1: Download PO File Template
To access the PO file upload tool in your network, go to Company > Customize Application > Settings > Application. Under the Language setting, click Upload custom PO files:
On the PO Files page that appears, select a pre-existing language template from the Default PO File dropdown to download it. The downloaded language template serves as a starting point for your translation efforts.
Note: Make sure your pop-up blocker is disabled so the download can start.
Step 2: Edit PO File in Editor
A PO file is a file that contains an original translation and the modified text that will replace it. Essentially, each and every line of text in your TUNE application can be translated. An efficient way to edit a PO file is to use a PO file editor like PO Edit that can be used to look at the original translation. Go through each line and text string that you want to modify and apply the new translation in the right-hand column.
Important: The English version of a translation must be on a single line. The translation will not work if the line is broken up in the PO file.
Example of correct formatting:
msgid "You either set your default to a disabled payment type or you have disabled too many payment types." msgstr"?????????????????????????????????"
Example of incorrect formatting:
msgid "" "You either set your default to a disabled payment type" "or you have disabled too many payment types." msgstr"?????????????????????????????????"
Step 3: Upload PO File
Once the PO file has been modified to your liking, save the file and go back to the PO Files page in your TUNE account. At the bottom of the page, you can select from a more extensive and specific list of languages. In the Language dropdown, select the language for which you’re uploading a custom PO file. Choose the PO file to upload in the File field, and click Upload.
Once your custom PO file is successfully uploaded, it is ready to use in your network.
Step 4: Select PO File in Network or Profiles
After the PO file has been uploaded to your network, you can switch the default network language if you want to use it for all accounts, or switch specific accounts as needed.
Download or Delete Custom PO File
When the custom PO file has been added to your network, you can click on the custom translation to download the custom PO file you uploaded prior. Click Delete on the right for the PO file to remove the file from your network and revert back to the default language. If the PO file was set as the default, then English will be set as the default.
